PhRMA Foundation Recognizes Three Trainees for Genetic Medicine Papers in Pharmaceutical Research
October 19, 2026The PhRMA Foundation is recognizing three researchers with a $5,000 Trainee Challenge Award for their first-author papers published in the journal Pharmaceutical Research.
Through its Challenge Award program, the Foundation encourages early-career investigators to engage on emerging research topics and amplify their voices through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
This Challenge Award theme, “Advancing Genetic Medicine: Discovery, Development, and Delivery,” invited original research articles and review papers addressing advances and ongoing challenges across the genetic medicine ecosystem, including gene therapy, gene editing, and RNA-based therapeutics.
The Foundation is recognizing three first-author trainees whose manuscripts were published following peer review by Pharmaceutical Research:
- Genetic Medicine Approaches for Tumor Suppressor Loss: Therapeutic Replacement with Self-Amplifying RNA, Devin Mutha, Chaithanya P. Vedula, Sanjana Bhagavatula, Mark W. Grinstaff, Wilson W. Wong, Dan Lu, Neil J. Ganem and Rachel L. Flynn
- Mechanistic Insights into Poloxamer 188-Mediated Stabilization of AAV8 Capsids Using Coarse-Grained Molecular Dynamics, Leila Sharifi, Jahanbakhsh Ghasemi, Leo Santisi, Shivangi Naik, Willow DiLuzio, Arani Chanda and Bodhisattwa Chaudhuri
- Stimulus-Responsive Polymeric Carriers for Gene Delivery: Balancing Endosomal Escape with Nucleic Acid Release, Kenneth Hulugalla, Alexander W. Fortenberry, Dilusha J. de Silva and Thomas Werfel
Genetic medicine is advancing rapidly, and these papers address important challenges in developing and delivering new therapies. We are pleased to recognize these early-career scientists and their contributions to the field.
