2003 Awards
There is no field more on the cutting edge of science, more intellectually exciting, and more socially rewarding than pharmaceutical research. Rapid scientific advances - in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, and information technology - are transforming drug discovery and development, paving the way for more effective, precise drugs that have fewer side effects and will benefit patients of all ages and stages of life. Over the past 40 years, the PhRMA Foundation has provided grants and fellowships to more than 2,000 young scientists to further their careers in pharmaceutical research. Now the opportunities are greater than ever.

Feature Story

Award in Excellence

Every year, the PhRMA Foundation grants Awards in Excellence to past awardees who are dramatic, living proof that the Foundation program works and makes a difference. These awards are given to scientists who received a Foundation grant at the outset of their careers in a discipline important to the research-based pharmaceutical industry when they were deciding on their area of specialization and went on to distinguish themselves through their scientific and/or academic achievements.

This year's three awardees have distinguished themselves in the areas of pharmacology/toxicology and clinical pharmacology. The Foundation is proud of their achievements and is proud to have been of assistance to them at the beginning of their outstanding careers. They exemplify the very best in their chosen fields. What they have achieved makes it easier to appreciate the importance of providing the same kind of support to those who follow in their footsteps.
